Fantastic Failure: GloStone Is Born
The makers of GloStone superior quality glow-in-the-dark jewelry were not historically jewelers. They were artists, writers, intellectuals, and musicians, who took a little time to play with glowing stuff. Combining some glowing material with several different mediums, the Sunshine Tulsa team was just goofing around. They created glowing bottles, glowing light bulbs, glowing wristbands, along with glowing coins and a few other toys. It was all fun, but not really ground breaking or Earth shaking, until completely by mistake, they created GloStone.
Things got interesting when Doug Ricks, one of the founders of Sunshine Tulsa tried to create something that looked like glowing metal. He mixed some glowing stuff with a new medium and put it on a simple peace sign pendant. The result was a tremendous failure. It did not look like metal at all. In fact, it resembled nothing more than a lump of rock. The initial disappointment disappeared, however, when they took it out in the sun and brought it back inside. It glowed brighter than anything they had seen, so bright in fact, that it glowed inside under the light.
It was a one of a kind, until a friend saw it and asked for one. Early in 2010 the team started making them for friends, and in June of that same year Sunshine Tulsa established itself as a business and started making and selling peace signs to friends and acquaintances by word of mouth. Word spread fast; Sunshine Tulsa delivered over two hundred pieces in its first few months. GloStone has made its way all over the United States, and is now making its way across the world.
The Sunshine Tulsa team has worked hard to improve the quality, and it has come a long way since the original lump of rock look. GloStone now has the finish of polished turquoise, and is beautiful in any light. Sunshine Tulsa has also diversified from the classic peace sign to nearly a dozen distinct pieces. There is a GloStone pendant for just about anybody.
