The Beauty And Spirituality Of Turquoise Jewelry
Turquoise has long been considered to be a metaphysical aid. It is believed to help relationships and friendships. It promotes connections not only with those around us, but also with our own inner self. Those who believe in the metaphysical benefits of gems believe that this tone helps us strengthen and align the body, assists in communicating our emotions, and improves our senses of intuition and creativity. It helps center the person and is a strong aid for meditation and peace of mind. It helps independent action by protecting us from the unknown. Some wear a silver turquoise pendant because of its healing properties. This stone is believed to help with illnesses of the respiratory, skeletal and digestive systems. It is believed that turquoise emanates a purifying energy that is dispels negative thoughts and emotions. Native Americans believed that turquoise protected people at war, and assisted their war efforts.
The spiritual aspects of this stone have been recognized and used for many centuries now. Early Egyptians who found this stone in the Sinai believed that this was there connection to the gods. So only kings, queens, and important priests were allowed to wear ornaments or amulets of turquoise, and only these individuals with a high standing in society were allowed to decorate their abodes with this stone. Native Americans who found this stone near Cerrillos, New Mexico also held the gemstone in high regard. They saw that the color of turquoise was similar to that of the sky, and turquoise was found on the earth. They therefore concluded that turquoise represented the conjoining of the heavens and earth. They incorporated this stone in their spiritual rites. The Egyptians and Native Americans were not the only civilizations to have respect for this stone. The Aztecs and Incas also worshipped this stone. Even today, Tibetans continue to use this stone as part of their religious ceremonies.
The color of the stone was the cause of much of the spiritual beliefs credited to this stone, and has also attracted the attention of jewelry fans all over the world. This is a beautiful gemstone that is often used in sterling silver jewelry. It has also been used in conjunction with other gemstones such as pearls, coral, and garnet. In white pearl necklaces , turquoise may be incorporated as a pendant, or as alternating blue beads with the white freshwater pearls. The blue color of this stone is quite bright yet sober. This makes turquoise very versatile in that it can be used in jewelry designs for men and women. In addition, it can also be used for casual and formal occasions.
