If it says “platinum plated silver bracelet”, will it fade with time?

I want to buy this bracelet but i want to use it every single day without the color fading -like my silver bangles- If the product says its platinum plated silver, will the colour turn black or will it start peeling off?

It depends on what “platinum plated silver bracelet” means. And you have to ask some hard questions to who is selling it and get some honest answers.

Here is how they can trick you. The platinum plating may be genuine, which would raise the question of how thick the plating is. If it is only a few atoms thick it will wear off soon exposing the “silver” bracelet metal beneith by wearing or peeling off.

The next question is what do they mean by “silver”? Do they mean the silver metal, or do they mean a metal that is silvery colored? So, another hard question to ask. And if silver metal is it sterling silver or some other percentage of silver?

If the person waffles in their answer and pretends to say “yes” but they are not sure, you should assume that they really said “no” and move on. A guarantee is worthless if not clearly stated with no waffling.

But back to color fading. Metal colors don’t fade. So if the color “fades” it is not from the metal but from some paint or plastic that looks like metal. If it turns black or green or some other color that usually means that the metal is an alloy and has copper in it. Most people have skin alergies with copper compounds and cannot tolerate copper metal against their skin for any long period of time.

The only metals you want against your skin for any length of time are gold, silver (sterling or better), platinum, or palladium. Palladium and Platinum are more rarely used in jewerley because they is more expensive than gold.
