How do I choose a jump rope to add to my workout routine?
Does it really matter? Do boxers use a particular kind? Are leather ropes better; or are some adjustable?
The type boils down to personal preference. Leather will not break down if you use it consistently like the rope or plastic jumpropes.
I personally like the ropes with the plastic casing (beads) surrounding the rope with a slightly weighted large handle. Make sure that you choose on that is long enough. You should be able to stand in the middle of the rope and pull the handles up to just under your armpit.
I like to do jumprope intervals…jump for 2 minutes, rest 30-45 seconds, sets of 5 increasing until I can do 10 then add a minute more to the jumping…I’m doing about 20 minutes right now. 10 minutes of solid jumping is about the equivalent of running a mile. If you get bored, try to jump on 1 leg for 30 seconds, switch to the other.
