RAMAKRISHNA –”God can be realised through all paths. All religions are true.”   

RAMAKRISHNA –”Great sages have child-like natures. Before God they are always like children. They have no pride. Their strength is the strength of God. They have nothing to call their own. They are firmly convinced of that.”

She is the Dispenser of boons and the Dispeller of fear. People worship Rakshakali the Protectress in times of epidemic, famine, earthquake, drought and flood. Shmashanakali is the embodiment of the power of destruction.” 

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”A devotee who can call on God while living a householder’s life is a hero indeed. God thinks: ‘He who has renounced the world for my sake will surely pray to me. He must serve me. Is there any- thing very remarkable about it? People will cry shame on him if he fails to do so. But he is blessed indeed who prays to me in the midst of his worldly duties. He is trying to find me, overcoming a great obstacle — pushing away, as it were, and a huge block of stone weighing a ton. Such a man is a real hero.” 

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”A man possessed of a strong spirit of renunciation feels restless for God, as the mother feels for her own child. A man of strong renunciation seeks nothing but God… He never thinks, ‘Let me first make some arrangements and then I shall think of God’. He has great inward resolution.”

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”A wife once spoke her husband, saying, “My dear, I am very anxious about my brother. For the last few days he has been thinking of renouncing the world and of, becoming a sanyasi, and has begun preparations for it. He has been trying gradually to curb his desires and reduce his wants.” The husband replied: “You need not be, anxious about your brother. He will never become a sanyasi. No one has ever renounced the world by making long preparations.” The wife asked, “How then does one become a sanyasi?” The husband answered, “Do you wish to see how one renounces the world? Let me show you.” Saying this, instantly he tore his flowing dress into pieces, tied one piece round his loins, told his wife that she and all women were henceforth his mother, and left the house never to return.”

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”An ecstatic lover of God enjoys Him in different Mays. Sometimes he says, “0 God, You are the lotus; and I am the bee, or You are the Ocean of Satchidananda and I am the fish”. At other times the lover of God says, “I am your dancing-girl”. He dances and sings before Him. He thinks of himself as the friend of God and sometimes as His handmaiden. He looks on God sometimes as a child, as did Yashoda, and sometimes as husband or sweetheart, as did the gopis.”   

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”Brahmn is where reason comes to a stop. There is the instance of camphor. Nothing remains after it is burnt — nor even a trace of ash.”   

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”Flies sit at times on the sweetmeats kept exposed for sale in the shop of a confectioner; but no sooner does a sweeper pass by with a basketful of filth than the flies leave the sweetmeats and sit upon the filth basket. But the honey bee… always drinks honey from the flowers. The worldly men are like flies. At times they get a momentary taste of divine sweetness, but their natural tendency for filth soon brings them back to the dunghill of the world. The good man, on the other hand, is always absorbed in the beatific contemplation of divine beauty.”

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”God cannot be realised if there is the slightest trace of pride.” 

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”God has created the world in play.”  

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”God has created the world in play; as it was, This is called Mahamaya, the Great Illusion. Therefore, one must take refuge in the Divine Mother, the Cosmic Power itself. It is She who has bound us with the shackles of illusion. The realisation of God is possible only when those shackles are severed.”        

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”Have faith in the guru’s words, and work. If you have no guru, then pray to God with a longing heart. He will let you know what He is like.”    

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”Love is of three varieties; unselfish (Samartha), mutual (Samanjasa), and ordinary or selfish (Sadharana). Unselfish love is of the highest kind. Here, the one who loves, seeks only the welfare of the beloved. The second kind of love is mutual love in which the one who loves desires not only the happiness of his beloved, but has an eye to his own happiness also. Selfish love is the lowest. It makes a man care only for his own happiness without having any regard for the feelings of the beloved.”

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”Ornaments cannot be made of pure gold. Some alloy must be mixed with it. A man totally devoid of maya will not survive more than 21 days. So long as the man has a body, he must have some maya, however small it may be, to carry on the functions of the body.”         

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”So long as one does not become simple like a child, one does not get divine illumination. Forget all the worldly knowledge that thou hast acquired and become as ignorant as a child, and then wilt thou get the divine wisdom.”

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”Souls that are entangled, involved in world liness, never come to their senses. They lie in the net but are not even conscious that they are entangled. If you speak of God before them, they at once leave the place. They say: Why God now? We shall think of Him in the hour of death. But when they lie on their death-beds, they say to their wives or children: Why have you put so many wicks in the lamp? Use only one wick. Otherwise much oil will be burnt.”

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”The darkness of Centuries is dispersed as. soon as a light is brought into a room. The a ccumulated sins of countless lives vanish by a single glance of God.”  

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”The intoxication of hemp is not to be had by repeating the word hemp even a thousand times. Get some hemp, pound it with water into a solution and drink it; you will then really get intoxicated. What is the use of crying aloud, 0 God, 0 God! Regularly practice devotion, and you will see God.”      

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”The magnetic needle always points towards the north, and hence it is that the sailing vested does not lose her course. So long as the heart of man is directed towards God, he cannot be lost in the ocean of worldliness.”

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”The sunlight is one and the same wherever it falls, but only bright surfaces like water, mirrors and polished metals can reflect it fully. So is the divine light. It falls equally and impartially on all hearts, but only the pure and clean hearts of the good and holy can fully reflect it.”

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”There are three classes of devotees. One says, “God is up there”, and he points to heaven. Another says that God dwells in the heart as the “Inner Controller”. But the evolved devotee says: “God alone has become everything. All things that we perceive are so many forms of God”.”

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”Those who surrender their hearts and souls to God, those who are devoted to Him and have taken refuge in Him, do not worry much about money As they earn, so they spend. The money comes in one way and goes out the other. This is what the Gita describes as ‘accepting what come of its own accord’.”

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”Unless the mind becomes steady there cannot be yoga. It is the wind of worldliness that always disturbs the mind, which may be likened to a candle-flame. If that flame does not move at all, then one is said to have attained yoga.”      

SRI RAMAKRISHNA –”What is needed is absorption in God —loving Him intensely The Nectar Lake is the Lake of Immortality, man sinking in It do not die, but becomes immortal. Some people believe that by thinking of God too much the mind becomes derange but that is not true. God is the Lake of Nectar; the Ocean of Immortality He is called the ‘Immortal’ in the Vedas. Sinking in it, on does not die, but verily transcends death.”

SRI SANKARACHARYA, SAUNDARYA LAHIRI –”You (Devi) are the mind, you are akasa; you are also fire. You are water and earth, too. When you have transformed yourself in this way into the form of the universe, there is nothing beyond (that is) not (already) included in you. It is to transform yourself into the universe that you assume this form of consciousness-bliss as Shiva’s consort, his Shakti.”   

SRI SUKTAM –”0 Agni, may You propitiate Mahalakshmi, the destroyer of demons but merciful to Her devotees, abode of auspiciousness, bestower of total protection, extraordinarily beautiful, bedecked with valuable ornaments, shining like a thousand suns; may that Hiranmayi, the golden coloured Goddess, be pleased with us.”     

SRIAUROBINDO –”On my summits of calm I have brooded With voices around me.”

SRIMAD BHAGAUATAM –”The mind, when it is steady in divine contemplation, expresses sattwa overcoming rajas and tamas. No more is there feverish hankering after worldliness. Tranquillity comes to a heart which is no longer stirred by desires, as stillness to a fire when no more fuel is added.”  

SRIMAD BHAGAVATA –”Those gopis are blessed Who have surrendered their hearts to Lord Krishna. While performing their domestic work, Like milking the cows, thrashing paddy, Churning curd, sweeping, Smearing the floors with cow dung, Quietening their weeping children, Singing lullabies and cleaning clothes, They sing the praise of Lord Krishna, Their hearts filled with His love, Eye filled with tears Ana throats choked with feelings.”   

SRIMAD BHAGAVATA PURANA –”Perceiving her son endowed with the characteristics of Lord Vishnu, Devaki prayed: You are the Illuminator of all psycho-physical organisms, the indefinable Reality, which the Vedas declare as the umnanifest cause-When the universe is dissolved by force of Time, the gross elements are ultimately merged in ahankara (their cause)…! You alone are left and are therefore called Sesha (the residue). You are the ruler of Tune, which extends from the twinkling of an eye to a year and is infinite… You are the dispeller of fears. Let not that wicked one (Kamsa) know of Your birth through me. Withdraw this four-armed transcendent form adorned with the splendour of a conch, a discus, a mace and a lotus. You, the Supreme Person, hold at the end of the cosmic night (final dissolution) in Your body this vast universe.”

The being of an angry person starts transmitting vibrations of anger and violence around him. Just standing close to such a person may make you feel nauseated. His very presence in the proximity can be uncomfortable. On the other hand, when you stand close to someone who meditates, you will feel uplifted; a feeling of comfort surrounds you.”

SWAMI CHIDVILASANANDA –”With the awareness of God’s constant presence in your life, you are able to approach each person and each situation in a unique way. Every time it will be different, every time it will be new, and every time it will be mysterious.” 

YOGA VASHISHTA –”When consciousness forgets Itself, and undergoes modification and conditioning, it is known as the mind… This is jiva, being that part of the infinite consciousness which has assumed the character of an object of this consciousness, just a little enveloped by psychological conditioning. Of course, the self is neither the jiva, nor the ‘body, nor its components, The self is like space, independent of all these.”         

YOGA VASISHTA – “The king of the earth in their earthly capitals are not as happy as are the lords of the cities of their own cities of their own bodies, and the master of their own minds.”

Even so is the world-appearance ever-changing. It seems to be stable and unchanging on account of ignorance. YOGA VASISHTA –”Arise and accept an antidote to ward off old age and death; it is the knowledge that all wealth and prosperity; all pleasures and enjoyments are harmful to us unless devoted to the good of others; they tend only to sicken and enervate our frames.”

He has the power to abandon all attachment or affection, but he behaves as if he is attached to his consort. He has nothing to gain by remaining so attached nor does he gain anything by non-attachment… While discharging his worldly duties, the enlightened person behaves in the same way as the ignorant person. The distinction between bondage and liberation lies in the state of one’s consciousness… The enlightened consciousness is unaffected by the rising and setting of likes and dislikes, mental action and supra-mental consciousness. When one is firmly established in the infinite and unconditioned consciousness, even these distinctions vanish.”

YOGA VASISHTA –”Prince Rama: During cosmic dissolution, the world which is clearly seen now — where does it go? Sage Vasishta: Is there a thing called sky independent of emptiness? Even so, there is no ‘thing’ called world that is independent of Brahmn the Absolute. Just as coldness is inseparable from ice, what is called the world is inseparable from Brahmn… The creation of the world has no cause, and therefore it has no beginning. It does not exist even now; how can it reach destruction?”        

YOGA VASISHTA –”Prince Rama: How is it that this world has acquired such a sense of reality? As long as the perceiver is, the perceived exists, and vice versa, and only when both these come to an end, there is liberation… Sage Vasishta: This world of egotism and countless objects of experience has not been created and so does not exist. What exists is Brahmn, the absolute existence… When the Absolute ‘thinks’, as it were, that it is a jiva,thejiva-nature manifests itself. Just as a sleeping person appears to create diverse creatures within himself without ever abandoning his own unique and sole reality by a mere thought or will the Absolute brings into being these countless creatures without ever suffering diminution or change.”   

YOGA VASISHTA –”Rama: When there are countless universes arising and dissolving in the infinite consciousness, why do you teach me of their nature? Sage Vasishta: In that way, you have gained the understanding that the world is a long dream. You have gained knowledge of the relationship between a world and Its meaning or the object it denotes. Hence, all this discussion of the world-appearance and imaginary creation has not been in vain… When, having known all that there is to be known, you attain knowledge of the three periods of time (past, present and future), you will see all this to be true. In every atom of this existence there are countless universes — who has the power even to count them?”   

YOGA VASISHTA –”The cause of human happiness and misery is a false representation of the understanding. This world is a stage stretched out by the mind, its chief actor, and Atman sits silent as a spectator of the scene.”

YOGA VASISHTA –”The eternal is not attained by rites and rituals, by pilgrimages nor by wealth; it to be attained only by the conquest of one’s mind, by the cultivation of wisdom. Hence everyone — gods, demons, demi-gods or men should constantly seek… the conquest of the mind and self-control which are the fruits of wisdom. When the mind is at peace, pure, tranquil, free from delusion or hallucination, untangled and free from cravings, it does not long for anything nor does it reject anything. This is self-control or conquest of mind — one of the four gate-keepers to liberation. All that is good and auspicious flows from self-control… The delight one experiences in the presence of the self-controlled is incomparable. Everyone spontaneously trusts him. None (not even demons and goblins) hates him. Self-control, 0 Rama, is the best remedy for all physical and mental ills.”

YOGA VASISHTA –”The mind of the enlightened is neither in a state of bliss nor devoid of bliss, neither in motion nor static, neither real nor unreal, but between these two propositions… Since it is the mental conditioning (which exists in the ignorant) which determines the nature of the action and of the experience, and since it is absent in the enlightened, the latter is ever in bliss. His actions are non-actions. Hence he incurs neither merit nor demerit. His behaviour is like that of a child; and even if he appears to be in pain, he is not. He is totally unattached to this world-appearance and to the actions of the mind and the senses. He does not even I entertain the notion I of liberation, nor that of bondage. He sees the self and self alone.”

YOGA VASISHTA –”The notion of the reality of the objects of this world arises only in ignorance. If it is realised that the objects are unreal, how does desires for them arise? Even ‘creation’ and ‘liberation’ are words without meaning. But this world is consciousness; if that were not so, neither ‘I’ nor ‘that’ could be comprehended.”        

YOGA VASISHTA –”The Supreme Self has no relationship with the world-appearance. The reflection of an object in the mirror can be said to be neither real nor unreal, it is indescribable, even so the body which is reflected in the Self is neither real nor unreal, but is indescribable… The Self is ever untouched by pain and pleasure; but thinking itself to be the body, it undergoes the experiences of the body; The abandonment of this ignorant belief is liberation… that is, freedom from conditioning.”   

YOGA VASISHTA–”When you do something, you should burn yourself completely like a good bonfire, leaving no trace of yourself if one renounces everything, then everything exists within the void of the one infinite consciousness. When one rests in that state of total renunciation like the lamp without fuel, he shines with supreme brilliance like a lamp with fuel. Even after renouncing the kingdom etc, you exist. Similarly even after the mind has been renounced, that infinite consciousness will exist… In that total renunciation does the highest wisdom or self knowledge exist; the utter emptiness of a pot is where precious jewels are stored. It is by such total renunciation that the Sakya Muni reached that state beyond doubt in which he was firmly established. Hence, 0 King, having abandoned everything, remain in that form and in that state in which you find yourself abandon even the notion of! have I renounced all” and remain in a state of supreme peace.”     

YOGA VASISHTA –”World in Sport the cause of human happiness and misery is a false representation of the understanding. This world is a stage stretched out by the mind, its chief actor, and the atman sits silent as a spectator of the scene.”     

YOGA VASISHTA –”You are not the doer of any action here, 0 Rama; so why do you assume doership? When one alone exists, who does what and how? Do not become inactive, either; for what is gained by doing nothing? What has to be done has to be done. Therefore, rest in the self. Even while doing all the actions natural to you, if you are unattached to those actions, you are truly the non-doer; if you are doing nothing and are attached to that non-doership you become the doer! When all this world is like the juggler’s trick, what is to be given up and what is to be sought?”

YOGA VASISHTA, SAGE –”The eternal is not attained by rites and rituals, by pilgrimages nor by wealth; it is to be attained only by the conquest of one’s mind, by the cultivation of wisdom. Hence everyone — gods, demons, demi-gods or men should constantly seek… the conquest of the mind and self- control which are the fruits of wisdom. When the mind is at peace, pure, tranquil, free from delusion or hallucination, untangled and free from cravings, it does not long for anything nor does it reject anything. This is self-control or conquest of mind—one of the four gatekeepers to liberation. All that is good and auspicious flows from self-control… The delight one experiences in the presence of the self-controlled is incomparable. Everyone spontaneously trusts him. None (not even demons and goblins) hates him. Self-control, 0 Rama, is the best remedy for all physical and mental ills.” 

YOGA VASISHTHA –”He is said to have made the greatest sacrifice who has sacrificed his own mind and endeavours at the shrine of self-abnegation.”       

YOGA VASISHTHA –”The brave and wise man, who intends in overcome his foes, must first of all strive to subdue the internal enemies of his own heart and mind, and the members of his own body…”  

YOGA VASISHTHA –”The Supreme Spirit, unlimited by time and space, of His own will and by the power of His omnipotence, takes upon Himself the limited forms of time and space. Know that the world, although appearing as substantial, has nothing substantial in it; it is a void, being merely an appearance created by the images and vagaries of the mind. Know the world to be an enchanted scene, presented by the magic of maya.”       

YOGA VASISHTHA –”When the universe is seen correctly, it is Atman and all bliss, but when it is seen incorrectly, it appears as the world, full of sufferings. He, whose mind has world-cognition, suffers, but to him whose mind has Atman-cognition, the world is a garden of bliss.”      

YOGA VASISTHA –”He is a mahakarta, a great doer of actions, who is freed of doubts and performs .appropriate actions in natural situations whether they be regarded as dharma or adharma, without being swayed by likes and dislikes, by success and failure, without ego-sense or jealousy, remaining with his mind in a state of silence and purity. He is unattached to anything but remains as a witness of everything, without selfish desires or motives, without excitement or exultation but with a mind at peace, without sorrow or grief, indifferent to action and inaction, whose very nature is peace and equilibrium or equanimity which is sustained in all, situations — in the birth, existence or annihilation of all things. He is a mahatyagi, a great renounce who has banished from his mind concepts like dharma and adharma, pain and pleasure, birth and death, all desires, all doubts, all convictions, who sees the falsity in the experience of pain by his body, mind, etc, who has realised’! Have no body, no birth, no right and no wrong’, who has completely abandoned from his heart the notion of world-appearance.”       

YOGA VASISTHA- “I am time; and I have destroyed countless beings, even the god who preside over the universe. I am the consumer and you are our food … this relationship is not based on mutual likes or dislikes.”

YOGA VASISTHA –”In reality neither the objective universe, nor the perceiving self, nor perception as such, nor void, nor inertness exists; only one is cosmic consciousness.”

YOGA VASISTHA –”May you be endowed with the spirit of enquiry till you rest in the infinite Brahman, so that all your delusions might come to an end you may attain the highest fruit (blessing).”
