How to dress classic goth?
I want to emulate how someone like Wednesday Addams or Morticia Addams dresses. Nothing punk, no studs or anything, but I want to know what a classic goth person would dress like.
What kind of clothes, tops, dresses, skirts, etc.
I also want tips on how to do gothic makeup. Please help!
I don’t want to be exactly like either of those characters, just to be gothic and not trashy gothic or punk/emo/scene/whatever the hell we call that style now.
Well, a classic goth is the same as a trad(itional) goth/punk goth, but you don’t need any stud piercing or anything. If you want to go for that whole Morticia look, just get a plain, black, maybe form fitting dress and some pointy black shoes. A sleeved dress or long gloves would look lovely. Try some subtle silver toned jewelry: since it’s Morticia, I’d say spider themed (maybe skulls?), but a simple cross choker/necklace and some silver cuff braclets would do nicely. For hair: if you’re okay with your natural hair – whatever it may be like – then that’s cool. If you want the whole Morticia hair going about, then dye it black. Or, you could get a (good) black wig.
As for Wednesday, I say the kind of stuff you would find in the school uniform section: only black. You can dress it up by finding some pleated skirts with lace trim, maybe pinstripes, etc.
Can’t help you much with the make-up – just do whatever suites your face (of course you should get some feedback before presenting yourself to the world, just to be safe). Just no white face unless you REALLY know what you’re doing. You can find some Morticia-styled make-up tutorials on youtube. Just look up words like “classic goth make-up” or “vamp style make-up”, etc. You’ll find something similar eventually.
And remember: be yourself.
