7 Tips For Men to Buy Pearl Jewelry

Pearl jewelry is a valuable gift that shows high regard. But knowing a few details about pearl jewelry can make the difference between buying something she wears constantly and something that always sits in her jewelry box.

*Make sure they’re genuine pearls: If buying online, terms that refer to fake pearls include “faux pearls” and “Mallorca pearls.” Real pearls are known as either “natural” or “cultured” pearls. *Choose the best length: Most online retailers will have a chart or photo showing the comparative lengths of pearl necklaces. Choker length is 16 inches and fits closely around the base of the neck. It’s flattering to someone with a long slender neck. The most common length is 18 inches. If you’re not sure which to buy, go for this length, which is known as princess length. For a more mature woman who wants to wear the pearls either for business or for evening wear, a matinee (22 inch) length is very popular.

*Get the right color clasp or setting: Most women favour either white gold or yellow gold for their jewelry. See what she usually wears. If in doubt or if she wears both gold colors equally, choose the gold color to match the pearls. For pearls that are black, silver, white with silver overtones, grey, lavender or peacock, choose white gold. For pearls that are golden, white with ivory overtones, pink, multicolor, green or black with copper overtones, choose yellow gold.

*Choose the best pearl color: White pearls are suitable for all, but will look better if the overtone is chosen to match the skin tone. White with rose’ overtone looks good on a fair person with light skin. A person with dark skin looks good in black pearls and silver pearls and in white with either silver or ivory overtones.
