Can titanium steel jewelry be made to tarnish?
I have this silver dragon ring which tends to enthrall people as it has an uncanny personality to it. Hubby has taken a sudden interest to it and I tried to find him another the same. The people I bought it from no longer have them but I found someone selling the same ring but made out of titanium steel.
The titanium steel one is very shiny – where as mine is tarnished so all the crevices are black. That’s part of what makes it look so real and amazing, as it adds detail.
Can the titanium steel be made to tarnish so it looks like my silver one? I’ve heard sulphur or bleach can be used to tarnish jewelry but would something like that work on titanium steel

Tash, titanium-steel is virtually unstainable. One idea might be to try dipping it into flat black paint and they wiping the high points with a clean cloth. Allow it to dry after that and then buff it with another soft clean cloth to bring back the shine or patina on the high points. Bleach would work but it would rub off almost immediately. Sulfur wouldn’t work for the same reason. It wouldn’t actually stain or penetrate into the metal but leave a “burnt” looking cloudy residue on the surface which would just wipe off as you wore it. That is one of the reasons that Ti-FeC (titanium steel) was developed, because it retains a high luster under almost ALL conditions. Of course that depends upon the amount of titanium in the alloy but one would assume that because it is being used in jewelry, it IS the best alloy around and unlikely to tarnish under just about all conditions.
