What are some intresting facts on the Bottlenose Dolphin?
Alright, So My family and I are going to Panama City Beach, FL for spring break and we’ve went in the past years, to gulf word. And they have a dolphin training camp. They also have PLENTY of dolphin experiences all over panama city beach, i just want to know some cool facts about dolphins.

Here are some facts about bottlenose dolphins:
- they are actually small whales
- they belong to the group “toothed whales”
- they are mammals that breathe air…so they don’t have gills and must come to the surface of the water to breathe
- Bottlenose dolphins eat around 15 kilograms of food per day consisting of a wide variety of fish, squid and octopuses
- Natural predators include killer whales and sharks such as tiger sharks
- Bottlenose dolphins are very social animals that live together in pods
- The maximum age for bottlenose dolphins is between 40 and 50 years.
- Bottlenose Dolphins can stay up to 15 minutes under water
Other dolphin facts:
- Dolphins have to be conscious to breath so basically this means that they cannot go into a full deep sleep as they would suffocate. Dolphins actually let one half of their brain sleep at a time.
- Like a bat, dolphins use echolocation to navigate and hunt, bouncing high-pitched sounds off of objects, and listening for the echoes
