Venting portable air conditioner through hinged window?

Thinking of getting a portable air conditioning unit, which uses a hose to expel the hot air through an open window. I see that the fitting kits are all design assuming you have a sliding window, which would allow the window to remain sealed. However, I’m sure it must be a common problem, but how do people deal with a hinged window? The best way I can think of so far is to cut a sheet of perspex to match the size of the open window, then cut an appropriate hole through which to feed the hose. It seems this would be quite tricky in practice, as some way of securing it to the window frame is needed, and I can’t really go drilling into the frame as it’s a rented property. So I’m wondering if anyone has come up with a clever solution yet, or are there any kits that can be bought?

You are on the right track. Plex glass can be cut with saws to fit in the opening, and can be drilled with a hole saw for the exhaust hose. Then go around the out doors side of the plex glass edge with Silver Heating Duct Tape to seal the plex glass and window frame. Use the same tape to seal around the hole cut for the hose.

Don’t use the Gray Clothe Duct Tape, it won’t hold up to the heat and outdoor conditions.

Caveat: Airconditioners work by removing water from the room air. Be sure to devise a way to catch and remove the water the air conditioner creates.
