im doing a project on Chinese Minorities and I am focusing on the Miao. I have to write a paper on the Miao religion, and I cant find that much, but I have found references saying that Miao and Hmong are very closely related.

Are they completely separate, partially related, or the same thing?
Do they have the same religion?
Are there any other similarities between the two?

If there is any more information you could give me on this subject, it would be awesome! (and any internet sites, too )

From what I understand, “Miao” is the putonghua (Mandarin Chinese) name for the people group, while “Hmong” is the local dialect for its ethnicity. They are one and the same, but called the two names, depending upon who you talk to.
