PRE-WEDDING CARE

 

SKIN CARE

Start your program with your skin-care regime at least one month in advance.

Get a professional face cleansing done from your trusted beauty parlour once a fortnight. Be sure to get your last done at least 4 days before the wedding day. At home, on a daily basis follow a cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing routine. Use a gentle fragrance-free cleansing lotion on a damp cotton wool to clean your face and neck. Take one teaspoon of oats in your hand, add a little water. Apply this to your face. Let it set for a few minutes, then with your fingertips gently rub around the nose and chin and basically all over the face and neck to exfoliate the skin. This will rid you off all the dead cells and prevent the pores from getting clogged. Wash off with water and apply your moisturizer containing a sun screen of at least 15 SPF units. Wait for 15-20 minutes before you apply your make-up.

When going out in the sun, carry an umbrella and wear dark glasses for extra protection.

Repeat the above in the morning as well. On alternate evenings use this natural bleaching face pack made of multani mitti(Fullers earth).Take freshly ground paste of one neem leaf and 1/2 portion of coating consistency and apply it to the face and neck. When dry, wash off with water. Tone your skin with hazel on a cotton wool pad and then moisturise. This will give you a flawless and glowing complexion.

 

HAIR

For your crowning glory, your scalp needs to be kept thoroughly clean by washing your hair at least 3 times a week-you’ll be needing this as you will be out shopping most of the days, gathering dust and pollution. Use a “frequent use” gentle shampoo(Baby shampoo)and in the last mug of water, after washing out the shampoo completely, add one teaspoon of cider vinegar in it. Do not rinse after this. Just towel dry and set as usual. Do not comb your hair when they are wet. This will result in shiny and voluminous hair and also keep it dandruff-free. Once a week, use this conditioning hair pack: 2 egg yolks

1/4 cup of gram flour

1 lemon (juice)

1/4 cup of herbal henna mixed with warm water.

Apply on a clean scalp for an hour, wash with a gentle shampoo.

If you are going to have a perm or planning your hair highlighted or a new hair, cut be sure to do it at least 3 weeks prior to the wedding, so that this new cut gets settled and you still have time to modify it if need be. Do not leave it for the last minute. That way you are not in for a shock. Invest in good hair brushes-a wide tooth vent brush and a medium style styling brush. For a quick curl look, buy heated rollers or benders and a hair dryer with a diffuser attachment. This will help you to be in control of your look and you won’t have to run to a beauty parlour.

 

BODY

Your body care routine should be a daily exfoliating and moisturizing process. In a thin muslin cloth put:

Oats: 1/4 cup

Powder milk: 1/4th cup

Thick starch: 1/4th cup

Mix this into a paste and apply it all over the body. Let it be dry for about 20 minutes. Bathe with warm water. Pay special attention to your hands and heels by applying a rich cream every night. Besides the home care get a professional manicure and pedicure just before the wedding. Your full body waxing should also be done just before the wedding. You should also invest in a good hair epilator which will come handy on your honeymoon when going to a parlour is not convenient.

 

COSMETICS

Lastly, for shopping for cosmetics, ask for testers and test the shades on a make-up free skin. By and large buy trusted names and ones which are least in fragrance and grease. Buy matte finish shades for lips and eyes. This will enhance your looks whatever your complexion may be. These days, specialized natural looking and long lasting make up is available that is hypo-allergic-like long lasting lipsticks, waterproof mascara, loose yellow powder, etc. Remember, never comprise on your make-up products. Whether you are doing your own make-up for the wedding day or getting it done from a professional, do a dress rehearsal to know exactly what you will look like on your D-Day.

All these tips will help you to be in full control of your looks, helping you savour every moment of the most wonderful time in your life.

 

BRIDAL COSTUMES

Most brides have a tough time deciding which the appropriate Indian bridal dresses are. But it’s not a difficult choice to make if you know a few general norms to start with and follow.

If you want to wear sari then there are lots of varieties like KANJIVERAM / BANARASI / ZARDOSI / and lots more and if you decide something uncommon like lahenga sari or lahenga then there is also lots of varieties for that.

On the occasion of an Indian wedding reception, costumes like the lehenga choli in the traditional colours are popular choices. Coupled with these colours the intricate work of zardosi might just look stunning. To add to these exquisite Indian bridal wear some traditional Indian jewellery would be the ideal choice.

Indian considers that wedding is the most important occasion in a family. From an ancient time the trend of sari wearing in wedding is continued or evolved through the ages. According to the Indian mentality a sari is like a bless by “GOD” on the occasion of wedding. Today a lot of designs or work is done on them which give more grace and beauty.

They give an exotic and unique look. Full of artistic work, bridal sari is more than a sari to women as that moment of love breathes in it. It is very expensive as well as loveable. Basic colour of bridal saris is red. It gives a vibrant and different look to a bride girl.

 

ORNAMENTS FOR THE BRIDE BEAUTIFUL:

Following are some of the ornaments married women usually to wear on special occasions and/or festivals:

For the head:

The tika /benda /matha-patti (as known in Northern India) is worn on the forehead. In Rajasthan, it is known as borla. The sheesh-phool is worn at the crest of the hair from where the juda(bun) or plaits are tied. Chapadia and jhoomar are also meant for the hair.

For the nose: Laung / Nath / Besar

For the neck: Taali / Choker / Mala / Haar / Mangalsutra / Hansli

For the ears: Jhumka / Karnaphool / Baali / Mundal / Bundey / Kundal

For the upper-arms and hands: Baajuband

For the waist: Kamarband / waistband

YOUR WEDDING DAY MAKE UP TIPS

 

To look fabulous on your wedding day, here are some suggestions for easy make up tips:

 

1. Use a cream blush applied after the foundation, before powder. This will be long-wearing and give a glow from within.

2. Apply lip liner evenly all over lips under the lipstick to make it last longer. When lipstick fades, it will fade evenly without leaving the outer lip liner only.

3. Apply a small dollop of lip gloss to the centre of mouth to make lips appear fuller.

4. Apply a shimmer-type product lightly on top of cheekbones to give highlight to the face.

5.Always use waterproof mascara and avoid applying any mascara to bottom lashes, or only do so if very sparingly.

6. Apply powder at the very last “makeup and hair minute,” as you can easily touch up foundation or hide nervous blemishes before you powder. This is not as easy after the base is set.

7. Avoid black or very dark eyeliner. It will make the eyes appear smaller in pictures. Instead, try smoky soft greys or plums, which will be softer and more flattering.

8. Keep eye shadow light and shimmery, again to avoid making the eyes appear smaller.

9. There’s nothing like a blushing bride! Rosy cheeks are always a winner.

10. Avoid waxing or facials right before the wedding. Give your face five days off before the big event.

11. Throw some shimmer on shoulders and décolletage. This always looks great in moderation.

12. Add a few fake lashes to outer corner of eyes. This opens and lifts the eye. However, be sure to use a waterproof adhesive!

13. If your skin is oily, avoid applying moisturizer before application of foundation.

14. Stick to a classic look. Avoid trends, as they will very soon look dated in pictures.

15. Be a happy and look like the prettiest version of yourself; don’t try to be anyone but yourself on the day. Remember — You have to make up and be happy at the start for all the crying during Vidai time at the End!!

 

SOLAH SHRINGER FOR INDIAN BRIDE

For an Indian bride the wedding day is the most important day of her life. She has lots of expectations and hope for this day. Most of the girls in our country have lots of dreams for this day since it marks the beginning of their journey into womanhood. Everybody wants to look best on this day. Different kinds of beauty rituals are associated with this day as her female friends and relatives spend the whole day preparing her for the occasion. The full beautification consists of sixteen parts from head to toe. On this very special day of her life she wants to look the best. She epitomizes beauty on this special day. The bride’s solah shringar starts from the top with her hair and ends with her toe.

 

First her hair is washed and oiled and adorned with flowers and other ornaments for the hair. It is decorated with borla. It is a conical shaped ornament for the head. Than a paste of turmeric, oil, and gram flower is used as a scrub and a cream for the bride’s hands and arms. Then her forehead is decorated with a mang-tikka or bhor ornament, which is worn along the hairline. The face is also adorned. And the eyes are highlighted with kajal to give a beautiful effect. Even make up is applied on face with powdered and lipsticks. Nose rings are worn. It can be made of gold, pearl and diamond. In some regions and community nose rings are never removed and they become symbol of married woman like Mangal sutra. Earrings are also worn on ears. They are of different shapes and sizes. Necklaces of different designs and sizes are worn around the neck. It can be of different lengths short, long or choker or collar type. The bride also wears floral garland. On hands bangles and bracelets are worn. It is the most visible part so bangles and bracelets are one of the most important adornments worn by the bride. Bangles can be of different kinds. It can be made of Gold, silver, iron, ivory, glass, ceramic or other metals depending upon the custom and rituals of the particular region. Armlets are also worn on the upper arm, which can be made of different metals. Mehendi designs are made on the hands and feet. On the waist elaborate gold or silver belts are worn. The belts serve the purpose of keeping the bride’s sari in place. And last but not least the toes are also adorned. Various kinds of toe rings are worn it can be simple or elaborate looking. The bridal wears, which is considered, as the most important part of solah shringar is always red in colour because red is considered auspicious. The sari usually has rich and heavy embroidery with gold and silver threads some also has beads work on it.

MAKE UP GUIDE

First wash your face properly than use a light moisturizer to smooth-en your skin. Select a concealer of a lighter colour shadow areas of the face around the eyes and nose. Then gently apply and blend it all over the face and under the neck an oil free foundation, which will last throughout a long and hot day. Try and choose a colour tone, which is slightly lighter than your skin tone but never for white. Matte foundation is best suited for Indian skin tone. It gives a natural effect. To get rid of blemishes touch up your face with a concealer. Apply translucent powder and spread evenly all over the face to get that matte effect. Proper make up should be applied to the forehead, nose and chin. The eye makeup is very important so proper care should be taken for eye make-up. Use a brown tone eye shadow for softness and white makeup to lift. Use a thin line of white eyeliner on the eyelid, to highlight the eyes. Finish the line with black eyeliner and add a little black eye shadow under the eye. To highlight your lashes use black mascara. To have a detailed look brush eyebrows and apply a brown eyebrow pencil. Use a good quality lipstick, which will last. The colour of your lipstick should match your dress.

Today’s make up trends are mainly glossy and shimmering. Girls go for glitter and gloss. Proper and accurate make-up matching the skin tone can really make someone very attractive, beautiful and elegant.

So go for that special makeup that will make you special on the most important day of your life. But keep in mind that your makeup should match your hairstyle and dress and it should be simple and elegant. It should not look overdone.

Today’s Indian brides are very much conscious about her look. They want a balanced look with proper hairstyle, make-up and dress. At the same time they also don’t want something overdone. Or maybe you could play different with a non-traditional colour like blue or green.

Why has the salwar become so ubiquitous in a region where it was unknown only a generation before? These questions call for serious investigation. The answer must be that this is a dress not seen as “Western” or immodest, and yet a dress that allows one to go to school or college, and to participate in the work force. Jeans and tops can be worn in cosmopolitan cities like Bombay, Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore, Madras.
