Question about tooth enamel?

The enamel of my top 6 front teeth is starting to fade. At the base of the tooth (near the gum) its starting to turn a bright white. I was picking at one of my teeth near the gums where the enamel is disappearing (bad idea, I know) and I felt a sharp pain.
What’s wrong with my teeth?
What can I do to fix this problem?
How can I keep it from getting worse?
I’m 15 years old by the way.

This sounds like erosion or abfractions. the erosions can be caused form eating a lot of fruit and not rinsing and the abfractions can be from clinching or grinding your teeth.

In either case, they can be filled with a resin filling and they will be fine.

Make an appointment with your dentist for a thorough cleaning and exam and see what he/she has to say.

You are not in any immediate danger and picking at it will not hurt it, it will only cause pain.

EDIT: 15 is generally too young to have either of the above conditions. It may just be regular decay. i still suggest seeing your dentist to have these areas treated.
