What’s the difference between wire bead and foldable tires?

Besides weight, what’s the difference? Like, what is the advantage of the wire bead? There must be some advantage cuz they still sell them. Anyone know?

The difference is:
1. Portability — folding tires … um fold! They travel in a bike pack, folded.
2. Weight. Folding tires are lighter because of aramid fibers (kevlar) that make up the bead.

I prefer folding tires for less rotational weight. The answerer who made the negative comments on folding tires hasn’t ridden thousands of miles on them like I have.

Edit: eastern.rider – there is a difference between being practical and being a weight weenie. Reducing the rotational mass on a bicycle is the greatest weight improvement one can make. 4 ounces of rotational mass reduction equals about a pound off frame mass. Oh, by the way, my axles are down to 8mm within the bearing retainers and we use quick releases not axle nuts. Folding tires are just better.
